James Tippin

James Tippin is an amateur player who made it to the final table on the 2nd season of the World Poker Tour. While he was in Tunica, Mississippi, Tippin qualified for the WPT tourney through a $220 satellite in which he did three rebuys. After finishing in third place, he took home more than $328,230.

He had his work cut out for him after he got down to the final 3 players, since the other two were Chip Reese and Barry Greenstein. But he played impressively nonetheless. Even though he was as an amateur, he wasn't afraid of being pushed around. The hand he busted out on went this way: Chip Reese was short-stacked and went all-in on a semi-bluff. Tippin had pocket Queens and just flat-called his bet, knowing that Reese wasn't that strong. Greenstein came over the top of them both for over a million dollars with A-K. Tippin called, but Greenstein hit his hand.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Tippin had recently retired after spending 45 years in the car wash business. After retiring, Tippin started devoting time to poker - a game he was already familiar with - in order to have some fun. Since his impressive WPT showing, Tippin has continued to play poker tournaments all over the US and continues to supplement his retirement income with poker winnings.

Tippin played great at that table, especially considering he had greenstein and chip reese to his left. he played excently, and with great posie, especially since that other guy who placed second was berrating him publicly: I would have been going insane.

THIS GUY IS GREAT. He s got alot of heart and seems like a very smart friendly caring and good natured man. Im proud that the underdog is able to make it big in the tourney and he s gotta be an incredible buisness man to make it so big in a buisness like car washing. Congrats James! I came on this site lookin to read more about ya! Ur wife is one lucky lady and i wish you all the best....

fuh q on April 10, 2005

yeah, but Drehobl caught QQ against Phillips' 88, QQ against Negreanu's KQs, and KK against Juanda's AQ, getting it all in preflop each time.hard not to win when the deck hits you over the head like that.

Well, he's no Jerry Drehobl. In case you are unfamiliar, Jerry Drehobl is the amateur who had been playing for 6 months when he won a bracelet at WSOP 2004 in the $1,000 No Limit event. The final table included Daniel Negreanu, John Juwanda, Paul Phillips amd Mike Matusow.

This dude placed third at a WPT event. He went all in with QQ against Barry Greenstein's AK. Barry turned an A, and that was the end of Car Wash. He played great though
