Layne Flack

Layne Flack is a professional poker player, residing in Montana and Nevada.

Born in 1969 in South Dakota, Flack started playing cards with his grandparents when he was younger, but didn't develop a serious interest in the game until getting a job at a casino when he got older. After work, he would go over to a different casino and to play poker. He became the night manager.

Flack played mostly in Montana where he met poker great Huck Seed. Seed encouraged Flack to start playing in tournaments. Flack took his friend's advice and moved to Las Vegas. Within six weeks he started winning tournaments.

Later on he also met Johnny Chan. They also became friends and Chan helped Flack improve his game. With the help of these mentors, Flack developed into one of the best players around and became feared for his unpredictability and aggressive style of play.

In season 1 of the WPT, he won a WPT in the WPT Invitational and also finished in 2nd place in another event that year. During season 3, he finished in 2nd place in the Aruba Poker Classic, earning $500,000.

He has 9 WPT cashes (including 3 final tables) for a total of $1,016,952. He has 23 WSOP cashes for a total earnings of $2,318,537. His 6 bracelets are tied for 7th on the all-time list. As of 2008, he has won over $4,200,000 in live tournament play.

He earned his nickname "Back to Back Flack" when he won bracelets in back-to-back events at the 2002 WSOP. In one of his WSOP event he played despite having a fever of 106°F.

It is rumored that Flack has had problems with drugs over the years, but had gotten help after going into rehab, and is OK now.

To the poster "Orthodontist needed" on July 28, I will never go to one. See when I was younger I was touched inappropriately by an orthodontist. Thus I will prefer to go through life with my grotesque snaggleteeth. Now could you all please making fun of my teeth because it causes me to self-medicate and I dont know how much more my nose can handle.

What needs to be fixed first, Layne "Tooth-Stain/Plaque" Flack's teeth, or Paul "X-22" Malgriel's nose skin-flap?I say neither. Let's take the money and go snort some powder instead, right Layne?- "Chocolate" Chip Jett.

$1,000,000 Question on August 2, 2005

Layne rung me the other night. Said he was sober. I believe him. Then again, I am also a guy who spend a grand to see Cher when she came over here. So my judgement isn't all that good.

englishcat on August 1, 2005

This guy treats his body like GARBAGE. He looks like a huge burnout. It's really sick seeing a degenerate in person. Dude's like 6'1" 130. And his horse teeth weigh like 8 pounds so really 122.

Huck Seed's Conscious on August 1, 2005

Who cares what he does in private...I can't stand looking at those teeth....Jeez - if you're gonna be on camera, spend a few bucks and get your damn teeth fixed.

Layne has not cleaned up.Here is a side bet for anyone.Within two weeks of right now, I will stake 10,000 bucks, (that is all I have in savings) vs. your 10 K that Layne will fail a drug test if taken in front of a neutral witness.I have first-hand knowledge he is still hittin it on the side. Dead serious.

Um, no on July 20, 2005

why would you make a comment about layne doing drugs when he has sobered up? get your stuff straight

un. on July 15, 2005

To help me figure out how much blow he can buy with the 36K he won yesterday. Help!

I need an accountant on July 11, 2005

for the invitational comment, he and jerry buss are friends, and he wasn't treating it as if it weren't serious, its his style at the table, he made incredible lay downs, great calls, and bluffs only layne can make. maybe you should understand what you're talking about before you start criticizing someone else. all you people judging him is a joke. layne has more poker heart than most, he can put all his money in without even looking at his cards because he can read what his oppenent doesn't have.

yo. on July 5, 2005

Layne Flack plays the aggressive style perfectly, one of the best Ive seen. Got that Gus Hansen, Sam Farha method. I also like how he doesnt compromise his verbal style when confronted with other loud players. Case in point when he was playing with Mike Matusow at the WPT table in Aruba. He told Matusow what the deal was and backed it up with superlative reads and raises. Personal problems or not, Layne Flack will always be a top flighter. He may have learned from Chan, but you have to have great ability to apply that knowledge.

Joe on July 5, 2005

nuts on July 4, 2005

I think Layne is awesome!!!! I know he will rock!

montanalaynefan on June 16, 2005

This guy acted like a totally dick in some celebrity invitational tourney. He had a monster chip stack at the final table and was mucking around with the master, laughing it up and criticising the celebrity's play heads-up. Granted the celebrity was as tight as a stick but still Layne just thought he was too good. He just kept mucking around, not truly concentrating on the game. I found it annoying. Having said that, i saw him at another final table where he was better behaved and hes a pretty good player overall.

Observer on June 13, 2005

Layne finished second in one of the first events at the WSOP this year, scored him like 365 K.Great start, but look out, now that he can afford some fo the high grade smack AND he is in Vegas, you won't see him make another final table for weeks! God Luck Layne. Keep chasin the dragon.

Layne's Number One Fan on June 10, 2005

Met Layne and family while eating chinese dinner at the Rio in June 05. Perfect gentlemen and cares about children. Very friendly and kind and doesn't mind being bothered about autographs and photos. I wish him good luck in the 2005 WSOP. Wish we could have talked more. Joe and Maryann

I just "took" him for about 2K heads up at a 30-60 limit table, but he didn't seem to care. I mean, we capped it three times with my trips against his bottom pair...I'm sure he's a good player sometimes...but MAN!

LimeHouse on May 7, 2005

He is not gay!!!! He has a girlfriend(not married)I love reading the jealousy you all prevail!!! Cracks me up that you can only put someone down because you can't enjoy his life! I wouldn't believe everything I read either. Everyone has problems, some learn to deal with them, others don't. He took care of things, sounds like you all need to take care of yourself too! They always say those that belittle others have no life of their own. STOP living his!!!

He is awesome! on May 1, 2005

You anonymous losers can say anything you want with absolutely no proof at all. I have never met the man, but he looks like a genius the way he plays and reads his opponents. My style is nothing like his, I am quiet and not nearly as aggressive. But I admire his ability and would love to learn the game from one of the worlds best players.

Come on guys! Dont be so damn ignorant...we all know the poker lifestyle is a tough and twisted one. The longer you're in it, the more messed up your life becomes. Layne taught me how to play and how to deal in MT. Yes time has changed him...maybe for the worse. But thats what happens to people in this lifestyle! It comes with the territory! I'm glad I got out of it.

MTgirl on March 24, 2005

He is intelligent and smart. Who cares how much he is or was in debt. It takes money to make money. Go Layne!

Lane is a GOD on March 21, 2005

u guys are sick losers the mans got skills him and forrest are freaky with their reads if you combined there agresive and no fear style with phil iveys focus and patience he would need no luck he would win every tournament he entered- i admire him for turning his life around and you idiots put him down about it - get a fuckin life - just because you will never be as good as him

patric on March 19, 2005

Come on guys...he's got 5 bracelets!!i mean whether he's broke or not....he's had plenty of money pass through his hands and i bet he's had a good time partying and spending it.I read in the cardplayer interview that he's been in rehab in the summer 2004...so hopefully he stays clean. His poker talent isnt in question and he will surely win and earn loads of money from poker. Its easy to be jealous when you have no life and if anything inspires jealousy its poker players!! the combination of testosterone, pyschological warfare, lying(bluffing),intelligence, and millions of dollars is sure to help rear the green eyed monster...and its there to see clearly over all these message boards!!

uk defender on March 18, 2005

good player, seems to suckout alot...hard to put him on a hand..he plays anything

iveyfan05 on February 23, 2005

If you all are so damn jealous of him get out there and take care of him on the poker table, I wish you the best of luck...you will need it!!! If you don't know the guy, don't talk about him. Show me 5 bracelets and then we can talk, until then you best bite your tongue before you get kicked in the a$$!! The guy plays poker for a living and he's addicted....you couldn't walk a minute in that guys shoes. By the way, who ever the so called banker is, you better know his real debt amount before you start talking shit that isn't true!!! Find a new hobby that you can be successful at like cleaning toilets or something, something you can actually talk $hit about!

girliegirl42hotmail.com on January 28, 2005

I love how so many attribute Layne's limited success to his drinking. Hmm, by the time he is 40 he'll be like Nick Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas." That's great. Flack has had limited success and has the bankroll to get into a lot of tournaments. But, look at the record. What has he done lately. He was on FSN Poker at the Plaza and looked (and acted) like COrky. This kid needs to go back to Montana, dry out, and get his head together if he wants to make it long term in the poker world.

slvsc2 on November 16, 2004

I've played with layne in ring games as well as tournies. I've seen him drunk and I've seen him sober. I've won many tournements myself. A sober layne I can beat, a drunk layne will rule the table. make no mistake, you can love him or hate him, but his style is a winner and he IS a world class player.

Mailpurge101 on November 15, 2004

check the 1st segment of fox championship poker at the plaza - deeb raises in the dark and ngueyen calls, check check, check check, check check, and layne calls both their hands blind without any real information. he's a bit too reckless at times, but u would be too if u had layne's skills. this guy is scary good

I really like Layne. Not only is he sweet on the eyes but he is the player that got me interested in poker. He is witty, charming, smart, skilled and entertaining. He is probably the best at reading other players. His aggressive style is wonderful to watch. I hope we see much more of Layne Flack.

Theresa on November 1, 2004

pocket7s on September 24, 2004

Layne is an avid and addicted poker player. I have been in some ring games and in a $500 buy-in tourni in Seattle with him ... he is a fun guy to play with, but, as mentioned earlier, he is loud and easily upset. He does like to drink. He put back 7 beers in about 3 hours of play, it was surprisingly pitiful. Flack does not use illegal drugs, but he is addicted to pain killers.

James Graines on September 10, 2004

You can have all the skill in poker, and still lose based on luck, as did Layne Flack in the Pokerstars.com $2 Million + No-Limit Holdem Tournament. He had one of the top chip counts with over $10,000 in chips. Him and another player went in on a flop of three low cards. Lane, with 2 2, made three of a kind with a 2 in the flop and went all in with his $10,000+ chips. The other player called, with a higher pair in the hole, and three of a kind with the flop. Layne was eliminated. Oh darn! hehehe

Poker Observer on August 7, 2004

REGGIE on July 30, 2004

Layne Flack is an absolute genius. Watch the mans ability in reading his opponents hands. His style is probably the most enjoyable to watch. You should be commenting on his ability to play cards, not his social life. He may or may not have problems, but so did the greatest of them all Mr Stu Unger.

Im sick of ppl confusing someones ability with there personality or personal problems. We are all humans prone to making mistakes im glad that all u ppl ragging layne have such perfect lives and perfect problems. Alot of ppl drink or do drugs for whatever reason but that doesnt mean they are bad or even wrong. Its just different from what you believe or do. If he is a drug addict i hope he gets help if he wants it if he doesnt i say let the man do what makes him happy and tip your hat to him because he has done better in the poker world then most of you ppl bashing him could ever dream to obtain. He has five gold bracelets and i dont think anyone should be able to crack on him unless u have more WSOP bracelets then go ahead and crack away !!!

Sick and tired on June 9, 2004

Many of you only see the worst in laynes behavior. He is one of the funniest tongue in cheek charecters in the world of poker. Layne is a force at any table and if the rumors you post are true about his personal life, they are still about his life, so back off of him, I have played with him all over montana, and love the way he gets players emotionally involved in the game through banter. Layne is a great player and one of the luckiest people in the game, when he's hitting he is a buzz saw. Give him the respect.

Hi Layne,So long and thanks for all the fish!I never got to tell you how much I appreciated you speaking with Thor for me. You really did the trick. Thank you. I've seen Layne play I've heard his talk, and he would be nothing had he not had the help from the good ol' Montana boys and Johnny. 9-2-x on the flop and having 9-2 in your hand isn't good play, it's sheer dumb luck.
