POKER PLAYER PROFILES

Kathy Liebert, along with Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman, is considered one of the best female players in the game. She first made a name for herself when she won the first Party Poker million tournament where she won $1,000,000 and became the first woman to a million dollar prize in a tournament. She made a deal with the second place and third places finishers, Berj Kacherian and Phil Hellmuth, so she only really made half the announced prize, but she still deserves credit. She's become a very respected tournament poker player and currently ranks fifth on the WSOP money list for women. When started playing poker when she was a kid in low stakes games with her family. Then she played low-limit poker in Colorado in 1991. She was a prop for awhile and began playing tournament poker in 1994. Born in Tennessee, she grew up in Long Island, New York and now resides in Downey, California and Las Vegas. She earned a B. S. degree in business and finance from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY and she worked as an analyst for Dunn and Bradstreet for a year where she did well but didn't like what she was doing. After quitting that job and traveling for a while, she moved to California where she played poker in Las Vegas. After playing for a while, a friend suggested she play for a living. After entering a couple of tournaments and doing well she then decided to get serious about poker and propped for a small cardroom.
She likes to enter some of her tournaments through single-table satellites because they offer a way to reduce costs and to practice her skills and although she has made a lot of money in poker tournaments, she maintains an investments portfolio and takes some of her winnings from poker and invests them in the stock market when a good opportunity comes along to ensure her financial future.
She has said that the keys to her success have been her competitiveness and her reading poker literature as well as the many hours she spend learning the fundamentals by playing low-limits when she started out.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy at the WPT event this year at the Mirage in Las Vegas. She is not only a great poker player, she is a very personable lady and quite attractive. To hear people speak of her in such a derogatory way is very sad. She is one of the top players in the world. Male or female, she is one of the best. One does not win major events by being a bad player. Give the lady her due. She is Good!

Kathy is bright, articulate, tenacious and a winner (and a little bit insecure). That's why we find Kathy attractive- because she's sexy. That's why there are so many posts about her looks; in the world of the neg look posties, sex appeal is only about their definition of good looks - which is a shame really, because it's supposed to be about Kathy's poker play. I hate this woman with a passion. I thought it was great on Superstars 2 when she was complaining about the time clock, and Barry Greenstein corrected her saying "Well those are the rules". She responded with something along the lines of "How do you know those are the rules?" and he quickly returned "Because I wrote them". Hilarous.

I used to be a big fan of Kathy. That was before I picked up on her trend of being mouthy and whiney. She really lost me when she got mouthy with Choa Giang on Superstars 2. I wish he would have slapped her, or better yet, punched her teeth out.

Who cares what she looks like??? Coming from an attractive female who has played poker for years, its sometimes a pain in the butt when an oppenent thinks you are attractive. They won't call your bets unless they have the nuts, they never check raise you and they even check it down to the river. It's frustrating when you are trying to compete and your oppenents don't take you seriously. I think Kathy is a great player, with a great "poker" personality.

Watched her on the GSN Celebrity/Pro show...Patrick Warburton kicked butt - Kathy's too. She might be a great player - but she doesn't handled bad beats well; she gets a look on her face like she's about to cry, which maybe she is. Still, I would love to play against her in a tournament one day.

Saw her recently on 'Poker Royal Battle of the Sexes' can't say I was overly impressed with her play (although watching it on TV it can be hard to tell). It seemed that Layne Flack lost the tournament rather than her winning it,if you know what I mean.Oh and if Kathy is reading this (doubtful but maybe someone can pass the message on) the bluffing act that you went through against Esfandiari was painful/embarrassing/funny (not in a good way) to watch, even though the idiot fell for it. What's up with her arm did she fall asleep on it and now it's gone numb and can anyone honestly and I mean honestly understand a word she says,it sounds like she chewing glue

Has anyone noticed that she always sits at the table at a angle? I think she has had a stroke before in her life cause the left side of her face looks droopy, and that may be the reason she sits at an angle at the table. Or maybe she sits that way cause she's too fat to fit in regularly so the only way to get ten people on the table is to have her fat ass sit sideway?

Kathy played fantastic poker tonight on TV, PSIT and she looked great. She talked more than usual and it was great to see this side of her. If she ever looses her desire to play poker, I'm sure that she can get a GIG in a comedy club. She came across as an extremely bright woman...quick witted.

simply, i find it funny when people armchair with perfect information. So before you say a player makes a bad call, pretend you didn't get the sneak preview. I remember in the old days before the pocket cam and you had to play along with the call. Watch the Harrington win in 95 and see how long you last. This applies to all you guys who jump the pro for a call. No matter the pro. Having never seen th 95 series, Harringtons call was perfect because no matter what pai he had, even if it was a bottom pair, was a good call because the man drastically overbet the pot. Again, play without the pocket cam and see if your predictions are as good.

I played in the WSOP Ladies Event on Sat. too. I sat next to her for a long time. Though I just found out who she IS today looking at this website. She was so much fun to play with. VERY NICE. Awesome player!! I placed 16th at the tournament. Where did you find the results, ibyprprty?

Got seated next to her in the WSOP Ladies Event in A.C. yesterday. I had a MAJOR short stack and she had a MASSIVE chip lead. I looked at her and said, "Kathy, don't bully me." :-)She was a very nice woman to play with and I was suprised that she was NOT a bully. If she didn't have a hand, she laid it down BUT when she had a hand she PLAYED it. Bet heavily PREFLOP and bet heavily POSTFLOP (if anyone was still in the hand.)I ended up in 20th (or 21st place) don't remember cause ITM was up to 18th place...Kathy finished in 2nd place.It was a great experience and I look forward to playing with her again someday.
