Poker Player Profiles

Marcel Luske
Marcel Luske is one of the most entertaining players around. Most people recognize him at the table by his trademark upside down sunglasses and the fact that he is one of the most talkative players around. He loves the thrill of competition and loves to give other players a hard time - but in a friendly respectful way. He reminds me of a European version of Scotty Nguyen. And although he has a lot of fun at the table and takes some blatant gambles, he has an undeniable instinct for the game. Most saw this when he laid down a hand pre-flop against another player who raised with pocket Kings. After he laid it down he said to the player, "Your kings are good". Then the other player, trying to cover up the fact that his play was easily readable, said "You mean my Ace-King?", to which Luske replied "No, your pocket kings." Marcel Luske finished 10th at the Main Event this year and made $373,000 but also finished 2nd in the $5,000 7-card Stud, losing to a player named Joe Awada.

I have know Marcel for years, worked for him in his many ventures in Amsterdam in the 70's and 80's and can tell you that he has never changed since I first met him. He has always been a singer and entertainer and had too much energy. Hoping to meet up with him soon.

Luske has been tearing up the European cash games for years and years. He plays many different types of games and always makes a good showing. If he tightened up his game a notch, he would be unbeatable. Nobody reads other players like he does.

I feel after meeting someone claiming to be him, that if this person was him going by the name of Ma_Luske on party poker .com, that he is rude and sexest. I truely hope the resl Marcel is not and is a gentilman. This man believed that Tezas Hold'em was to be played by men as shoulod all poker tournaments be men because women can not play well. He also showed a disgust and fear of Homosexuals, claiming they could not play either. This to me was really sad. To have all the wisdom of the game but not the sense enough to respect other human beings. He claimed to be in Holland. Can someone please tell me if this sounds like the same man?

Whats with all the negative posts? Why would anyone dislike Luske? And why on earth does every amateur on the internet believe himself capable of judging the talent of a poker player he's only seen on screen? I mean, if you played him AND won, then I could possibly respect your opinion about the quality of Luskes play. The man has an extremely impressive tournament history, and claiming as some do that he "just is lucky" is laughable. I also can't understand why anyone could have a problem with Luskes personality. But this being the internet, I guess it's just the weido-factor. Btw, it all reminds me of countless discussions I've overheard trying to determine if Steven Seagal could kick Mike Tysons ass or not. Utterly pointless.

We DO NOT all know that tight players are the best! I have lots of respect for Dan Harrington great great poker player. I only saw Marcel at the World Series but he knew how to play loose and did well at it..OBVIOUSLY! He got 10th or something close like that of almost 2600 people. He is also entertaining. Also Hellmuth does not rule. Hullmuth has a terrible steam factor that you can not deny absolutly effects his play!

Sammy the Brick
February 23, 2005
Marcel is too loose, but loose can be good if you know what you're doing, but we all know that tighter play is best, Harrington has made 4 final tables, one win, and 2 final tables when the field was 800+ and 2500+. TIght players rule, look no further than Hellmuth.

kgb1986
February 17, 2005
wow marcel is awesome. sucked that he got knocked out in tenth at the series. My best to Marcel, he is an incredibly skilled player and also GREAT entertainment wise @ the table. Showing in his own right that you dont have to be tight lipped and meely mouthed to be an excellent player

LuskeFan
February 15, 2005
Anyone who claims he is too loose and doesn't know what he is about needs to look no further than the fact that he made 14th in 2003 against over 800 people, and 10th in 2004 against over 2500.In order to get past to even top 200 requires you to be an excellent player.

to datajett...you are obviously a fan, as I am. I would like updates, if that is possible to his current tournaments, but more importantly, just the basic info. there is next to nothing about him perosnally, like what did he do before poker, from what i understand the man did not play in tournaments before the turn of the century. what did he do for a living, shit like that? i don't know if there is more out there than i know or what? In america he shows so often on espn, and to me he is just such a funny and cool cat...being in the public eye you are going to get notice positive or negative so either shouldn't matter, but you are going to get fans. I would like a focal point of ineterest a la a fan site...

I can create a web page for Marcel. I have my own web site. But I would not know what to put on it. Some pictures of course. Some links to his place in events. What else. Open to suggestions. But not open to negative childrens comments. I would not was a message display area, because of the foul mouth negative kids. Unless of course I monitor it. Send me links to his pics, articles on him, etc. Make the pics better than the 1 at the top of this page. Maybe 1 of him waving his tie in front of his chips, 1 with his upside down glasses, inside out hat & suit, etc. Let me know.

" I have nothing...........Only full house":) Marcel is the man. Definitely the most entertaining players i have ever witnessed. And he's not as loose as most people make him out to be. The few times i have seen him go with medium hands were times he read the other players as having hands that were even worse than his. He can read people blind, and has shown that many times. The fact that he missed the final table by one spot, and that his protege williams made the final table and came in second alone says something. Both of them waded through 2600 people."Don't be Chickee.....put something in there."

Marcel Luske is an excellent player, he definitely has an uncanny ability to read opponents, more the once was he seen making the proper read. well all I have to say to you is that it is a good thing David Williams keep going all in cause it won him 3.5M and 2nd at the WSOP. He was sort stacked so he HAD to do what he did. Now I did not see all of his play and neither did you but I assume he must of done things right to be 2nd. I am so sick of you jealous people using the term "lucky". First of all you HAVE to get lucky to bet almost 2600 people. What you don't get is they played for 7 days and you saw the last day or two and you only saw what they showed on TV. Out of thousands of hands you saw maybe 10-15, come on people..that's not enough to give a really good opinion. When you get to that point in the tournament and you are short stacked your only move is all in, if David wanted to win big it's what he had to do and I commend him for it. Get it straig before giving your opinion..LOSER!!!! By the way Marcel was great to watch and I liked his play.

"give a little bit, give a little bit of your chips to me" haha funny stuff..he was fun to watch at the 04 wsop..i thought he was an asshole watching him play a stud event where him and that fat guy from atlantic city went at it..not sure when that was,,,his taking david williams under his wing was a really classy move. and him rooting williams on when it was head to head was very nice..fun guy to watch, maybe plays a little too loose to ever be truly great, but he has the ability to read players ..like when he told a guy at the 04 wsop that "kings where good"and thre guy goes "what you had kings "and luske goes no u did' great read...

The field is going to be enormous next year. How can you say any one person is definitively going to be among the final 10 people. Marcel is one of my favorites but as Phil Hellmuth would say; making your way through that field (with so many amateurs) is like navigating a mine field.

7 Card Stud is a drawing game, so luck plays a big role in it. He did get lucky on a few hands, but he's definetly a solid player. He trapped Frangos with his rolled up 4s which showed his skill. Awada played very well but keep in mind Luske was on a comeback, unfortunetly Luske started playing his starting hands way to lose and was outdrawn.

Definetly my favorite player. Marcel has it all, enteraining and an outstanding poker player. His reads and style are amazing.I think my favorite Marcel moment was playing in the WSOP 7 Card Stud event. Where he was against Frangos, who was being mouthy to him the whole time. They both drew their straight - Marcel with A high and Frangos with five high.Showdown comes, and Frangos says "I have a straight" Marcel just looks at him and goes, "You mean this one?"Haha, Frangos just started cursing up a storm.

Marcel is awesome! The man has style, he sings at the table, and has his own trademark look.He makes some very good reads at the table as well. An example would be when he had A-J, and he pinned Harry Demitriou on Cowboys. An excellent laydown.I try to play the Luske/Farha style and it wins.
