Martin de Knijff is a professional sports bettor and high-stakes poker player from Sweden.
Born in 1972 in Sweden, Martin has always been interested in games. He is a life master in bridge and has been betting on sports since he was a teenager. He began playing poker at age 15 with his friends at school. As a result of his growing interest is poker, he went out and bought Doyle Brunson's Super System. He credits the book as being integral in his success as a player. He also watches tapes of himself playing tournaments in order to improve his game and sculpt custom strategies for each opponent.
He first made a name for himself in the poker world with a 13th place finish in the 2002 WSOP Main Event, earning himself $60,000. After cashing in a WPT event during season 1 for $26,664, he went on to win the same tournament the following year, earning a $2,728,356 - a record at the time. Less than a month later he finished in 2nd place finish in the $5,000 No Limit Hold-Em event at the 2004 WSOP for $210,100.
He has gone on to attain medium cashes in other WPT events (6 WPT total cashes) and has 3 total WSOP cashes. As of 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceed $3,300,000.
