Nicknamed "The Grinder", Michael Mizrachi is a professional poker player from Florida.
Born in 1981 in Miami, Florida, Mizrachi grew up in Miami Beach, Florida in a family with three brothers. The entire family started playing poker to keep the boys occupied. His older brother Robert Mizrachi is an established poker player who has many cashes in the WSOP and WPT. He has a twin brother Eric Mizrachi who is also a poker player and a younger brother, Daniel, who is a professional magician.
Michael went to college to become a doctor, but quickly started playing Limit Hold 'em online. After he got pretty good, he left school and to play poker full-time. Michael grinded it out online and in tournaments until the birth of his son in 2004, when he became more focused.
In January 2005, Mizrachi finished 5th and earned $288,241 in the WPT Season 3 World Poker Open at a final table with Daniel Negreanu and Scotty Nguyen. Next month, he won the 1st prize of $1,859,909 on the WPT L.A. Poker classic, outlasting a final table including Ted Forrest and Erick Lindgren. He finished Season 3 of the WPT with an 11th place finish (out of 452 players) in the $25,000 WPT Championship, earning $94,355.
After having 2 medium cashes in the 2004 WSOP, he tied a record by recording 7 cashes in the 2005 WSOP (none were for notable amounts).
In the WPT's 4th season he finished second to Scotty Nguyen in the Gold Strike World Poker Open, earning $566,352. In the next event during the same year, he outlasted a final table including John D'Agostino and Erick Lindgren to win $1,173,373 and his 2nd WPT win. Mizrachi was one of the players at the table during the second season of High Stakes Poker.
In 2006 Mizrachi won CardPlayer Magazine's Player of the Year Award.
Mizrachi has 19 cashes (no bracelets) and total WSOP earnings of $587,276. He also has 6 circuit cashes for $323,258. He has 11 WPT cashes for $4,215,265. His most impressive accomplishment may be making over $1 million in two different tournaments.
Mizrachi currently lives in Hollywood, Florida. As of 2008, his live tournament winnings exceed $6,700,000.
