Born in Coast Rica and currently residing in Miami, Florida, Jose Rosenkrantz is a professional poker player who plays tournament poker around the world. Rosenkrantz and Humberto Brenes are collectively known as the "Costa Rica Connection".
As of 2009, he has 4 WPT cashes (including 1 first-place finish) and 16 WSOP cashes but no bracelets (the closest he came was a 6th place finish in 1997). He is best known for his 1st place finish in the World Poker Tour Season One Costa Rica Classic Event where he earned $108,730. A year later, he finished 2nd in the WPT Battle of Champions.
He learned how to play poker at the age of 15 but only played for recreation. He did, however, take the game of billiards seriously and became the Costa Rican national billiards champion. He continued to play poker and in 1985 he started a local poker club in San Jose, Costa Rica with Humberto Brenes.
He also owned a clothing manufacturing company and this led to do a lot of traveling for work. While on a trip to Las Vegas with Humberto he was introduced to Texas Hold 'Em. When he got back, he started playing in tournaments and the same discipline that helped him become a champion at billiards helped him quickly became a champion at poker.
