Born in 1947 in Oslo, Norway, Thor Hansen is a professional poker player and former professional pool player. Currently residing in El Segundo, California, he was recruited by Larry Flynt to play poker for him after Hansen played against Flint in Las Vegas in the mid-1990s.
Hansen has two WSOP bracelets, one in the 1988 $5,000 Seven-card stud event for $158,000, and then later in the 2002 $1,500 Deuce-to-Seven Lowball for $62,600. His other notable cashes are: an 8th place finish in the 2007 $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event for $188,256, a 2nd place finish in the 2006 $3,000 Omaha Hi-low Split Event for $155,443, and a 134th place out of a field of 6,358 players in the 2007 main event, earning $58,570. He has cashed in the WSOP 46 times and has total WSOP earnings of $1,165,960.
Hansen also has 4 cashes at the WPT for moderate amounts and was awarded the first Norwegian Poker Player of the Year award in 2005.
As of 2009, his total live tournament winnings exceed $2,600,000. As if these accomplishments aren't enough, here is an incredibly impressive statistic - as of 2009, the last year that he did not have multiple cashes at the WSOP was in 1999 (when he only had 1).
