The word "poker" comes from French origins, but the game probably started in China.

Actually, the exact origins of poker are unclear. It seems to have originated from a 16th century Persian card game known as As Nas.

True, the origins of poker has a lot of story and even today no one will ever defend the true origin of poker. But some says that it was from China, some says it from Egypt. But whatever history there is, good thing poker was invented.
The actual beginning of card games, as we know them today, was first recorded by a Swiss Monk named John of Rheinfelden. John recorded a card game played in 1377 with a deck of 52 cards. The cards ranged from 1 to 10 in value. This seems to be the best evidence that 1377 is the first year that history documented a card game being played with a 52 deck of cards.
