Imagine the odds.....

I was playing 3/6 hold 'em at Foxwoods a few months ago and I hit a hand I will never forget. I was BB and was holding 9/7 off suit. Any raise on the table and I most likely would fold, but there were 3 callers so i checked em. Flop came 779. I bet the boat and had a folder, a caller, and much to my surprise a raiser. I reraised here and was called by both. Turn comes a 7. I bet next player folded and this crazy guy raises me. So I reraise and he says to me "I guess I just walked into 4 of a kind." He calls here, I guess he just had to see em. River comes the, yep you guessed it, the 9. I got 7/9 in the pocket and 77979 on the board. I kinda felt bad for the guy and he had the read on me perfect so I gave him a chance and simply checked it to him. Finally he makes the right call and checks....we flip em and Yeah he was right I had 4 of a kind....twice in the same hand. I would love to have had a video of myself to see what kind of tell I gave up on that hand. I was trying to be so cool and calm about it but i bet you could see some big stupid smile on the corner of my mouth.

Heres a hand for ya. finished a tourney and was playing side game. 6 players, 5/10 blinds ,I was small blind and first to act. I get dealt AA. First to act raises it up to 50. 2 folders,2 callers, I raise it another 100, everyone calls.....

Flop comes up A,A,10, I check, next guy (orignal raiser) bets 100, everyone calls... turn flops a Jack. I check, next guy chks, next guy goes all-in with about 350, button calls (allin also), I call, next guy calls. river pops a king.
I go allin with 650. I get called. pot sits with about 3500 in it..

on board A,A,10,J,K hands are AA, KK, JJ, QK

You wanna talk about a table on tilt.

It wasn't four of a kind...

...twice in the same hand. Unless you're playing eight card hold'em...

Boy must have trouble with math...

Dude, if you had FOUR sevens and FOUR nines, you would need EIGHT cards. Unless you're playing in some game run by the government (where two plus two equals six) that's simply NOT possible. There are only SEVEN cards available to you.

You had four sevens and you drew THREE nines.

If your math is THAT bad, maybe it's a good thing you got all those good cards.

Jesus.

Einstein, you had 4 7's and 3 9's. At least that's what you originally posted.

Shamus..give up already

As many of the posts have pointed out...you couldn't have both 4 7's and 4 9's...with 7 cards available to you in poker it just isn't possible. And, yes, by your original post, you had 4 7's with 3 9's. Your posts have been the most entertaining that I've ever read on here though. So, keep trying to defend your 2 sets of quads in the same hand...its hilarious!

Redefines idiot

I swear to GOD I've never seen anyone not only so dense, but so incapable of doing the simplest math.

Where did this joker go to school?

Even better question...where the hell does he play poker? Cause I WANNA PLAY THERE TOO!

I could even accept if he wants to argue that the world is flat. As silly as that is, at least we can't disprove him RIGHT THIS MINUTE. But this idiot is arguing an equation a first grader wouldn't have any trouble grasping. It's like you're handing him two apples and when you ask him how many he has, he says "three" over and over again. Then when you count them for him, the moron STILL inists there's THREE...

I don't insult people as a rule (well, until they deserve it) but...well, he deserves it. How much plainer can it be to the guy that four of a kind twice in one hand is simply not possible?

This better be the last time someone posts about this

It sounds to me that the original poster was making up a story and really wasn't playing $3/$6 holdem. He probally is in high school and was trying to make up an impressive story.

To the writer:

Try harder next time something like this...

I'm on the button with AA in a $5/$10 blind no limit texas holdem cash game at the bike. There are 2 limpers. I raise to $30. The blinds fold and the two limpers call. The flop comes 688. The first person bets $30 the man to my right calls and I raise to $100. The both call. The turn comes A. The first person bets $100. The man to my right calls. I raise all in making it $420 to go. First guy calls, second guy folds. River comes a Jack. I turn over Aces full--Evelyn Ng turns over 4 8's. That's right Evelyn Ng. Unbelieveable. Well anyway after she took all my money we went out to my Chevy Blazer 4x4 and made out.

Now that's a good bad beat story.

I'm in this $10/$20 blind no-limit game...

at my friends house, when in walks Johnny-fuqqin'-Chan. We sit down and start playing and on the second hand I'm dealt AA. I lead out with $82,000 and the title to my estate in Kenya. Johnny comes over the top with $4.4 million and the keys to his Jag.

Naturally, I call.

Wouldn't you know it...the flop comes AAA! Yep, that's right, I hit five aces off the flop! I check, and Johnny goes all-in with the key to his wife's chastity belt and the souls of his four children. This makes me think he really must have something, so I use all my poker skills to try to deduce whether he's bluffing or not. Could he have the sixth and seventh ace?

Finally, I decide to call. He turns over the rook card AND the old maid card. I can't believe he would call with that crap. The turn and river come rag-rag, and I win everything he owns including a priceless Ming vase and Christie Turlington's phone number.

"Nice hand, kid," he says. "I really put you on four of a kind times two. I heard about that happening once. Who WAS that kid who hit that..."

"Sorry, John," I said. "I just can't remember..."

Then I went outside and made it with Evelyn Ng in the back of Johnny's Jag.

Here is a hand, I had 10 Jack of spades, I was in big blind, the raise was double the bb so I call. Flop is A 5 3 of spades. I think originally preflop this guy was trying to push me out of the hand but did not bet enough. I stupidly bet, he goes all in. I call he flips over 4-2 spades. He got a straight flush on the flop and I had a flush with jack kicker. Turn comes queen of spades so I get the straight flush draw and I am still alive. I say no way it wont happen, I start packing up my stuff and the river comes, King of spades. I couldnt believe it. Beat a straight flush by runner runner royal flush. I felt kind of bad but...

I believe the odds of you hitting that runer runner are 1 in 990 ((45/2) * 44). That seems smaller than you would think. Of course the odds of you guys being in that situation in the first place are astronmically higher.

Was this in a home game or casino? If that were me I probably wouldn't have even noticed that I won the hand.

It is a good idea to keep track of your poker play in order to find where your strengths and weaknesses lie.

This thread is the greatest abomination I've ever seen in my life, it's almost impossible to conceive of anything this stupid. If one were to eat a bowl of Alphabet Soup, then down vodka all night in order to subsequently vomit the contents of said soup all over the floor, the resulting bile and filth would be more coherent than what has been stated in this rambling, idiotic series of posts.

Poker odds most often come into play when you are on a drawing hand. You'll want to know if the odds the pot is offering you are better than your actual odds of hitting your hand. To calculate your odds of making your hand, simply count the number of cards that you can consider to be "outs," cards that will complete your hand, and compare them to the number of cards that remain. For example, let's say you hold AK on a board of 3 9 5 8 and you are convinced your opponent has top pair. This means that any ace or king should give you the pot. This gives you six outs, for the three remaining aces and three remaining kings. Since you know your two cards and the four on the board, there are 46 cards you have not seen, 52 minus six. Out of those 46, six give you the win and 40 do not. This is an odds ratio of 40-to-6, which reduces to about 6.5-to-1. This means you need better than 6.5-to-1 pot odds to continue.

Although these are rough calculations, they still may be difficult to make in a game. For this reason, you should have certain poker odds committed to memory. The most important ones are as follows:

Your odds of flopping a set from a pocket pair are about 8-to-1.
Your odds of making a flush on the next card if you flop a four flush are about 4-to-1, if you get to see both cards it is closer to 2-to-1.
Your odds of making a straight on the next card if you are open-ended are around 5-to-1.

If you have four outs with one card to come you are roughly 11-to-1, two outs and you are around 22-to-1, one out and you are 45-to-1. (That one is easy. There are 46 cards in the deck and only one of them helps you, the other 45 do not.)

In a no limit game, you'll also know how much to bet so that opponents aren't getting the right odds to call to try to hit a draw (a pot-sized bet or greater will usually do the trick if you're not sure).
The odds of the 1st flop card hitting your pocket pair is 2 out of 50. The odds of the second flop card hitting your pair is 1 out of 49. The odds that the third one will not hit your pair are 48 out of 48. That is how we arrive at the first part of the equation - (2/50)*(1/49)*(48/48). The "48/48" comes out to 1 and can be dropped from the equation. The second and third scenarios will follow the logic of the first.
