How do you play this?
NL Holdem .25/.50 blinds.
Playing in a home game this game this situation came up. How would you play it? You are holding ATs and raise $2 before the flop. You get two callers, one of which is a maniac. Flop 10 4 8 rainbow. Player to your left bets $1. You raise to $4. Maniac goes all in. ($24 and all your stack.) Player to your left folds. Action is on you. Call or Fold? I want to know what you guys would do? |

I would fold. There are too many hands that can beat you. AA, KK, QQ, JJ, 10-10, 8-8, 4-4. I usually wait until at least 2 pair or at least an overpair. One mistake people make is to call a big bet from a maniac assuming they are always bluffing.

Obviously his past betting patterns would be helpful. Does he reraise preflop with high pairs such as JJ-AA? I doubt he flopped a set with that bet so you probably have the best hand. It is wise not to over value top pair or even an over pair to the board but I probably would have called in the situation given past hands makes me believe I'm ahead.

I agree. History is good. I would fold here with top pair top kicker.
With a maniac you just never know. You try to sit back and catch him with the best of it, and right now I would have a bad feeling. You only have one pair. He could have flopped some strange two pair, set, or maybe simi bluffed with K-10 and alike. You could have run into a huge hand and he played it slow. I would wait for a better spot. But that's just me. How did it turn out? |
