Oh yeah, he's one cool customer. Excellent reader who can mix his game up very well, I would really like to see more of his game. He is more of a cash-game player than tournament player though, correct?

Supposedly because he is a well-known player all around the WORLD. Read that on Hellmuth's site, other than that I have no thought whatsoever.

they call him "world" because he has sun spots on his bald head that look like continents of the world - and that's the truth

thanks for the explanation, i thought that "the world" was the dumbest nickname i had ever heard, but that actually is a darn good reason to have that nickname.

How come this guy rarely finishes in the money, or does he not play all the tournaments...

His nickname as a pool player was "World Class" because he was that good, he shortened it to just "world" when he switched to poker, at least that's the story I heard. As for his skill at poker, it's unquestioned, the guy wins more in cash games than most players win in tourneys; only now that the prize pools are worth his time is he begining to play. My girlfriend was working at the Bellagio and saw him win over a million dollars in pots, in one night! The guy is world class.

my man john hammered me at the wsop with pocket aces over my pocket jacks. he had been raising the blinds consistently, and i thought i'd put a stop to that by raising over the top (but not wanting to see another card with overcard killers) and he calls in an instant with his bullets. He set those bullets up like the pro he is.
