Poker is about making money. Period. Some people play for fun, but unless you're playing for pennies with grandma, poker is about making money.
If he raises to $6 and you shove for $74, that's not bad etiquette; it's a ridiculously stupid bet. Doesn't matter if you have the nuts at that point. You re-raise to something substantial, but not $74 into a $6 pot. Some players are bad enough (and it sounds like from the game you're describing you and the others there fall into this category) that they will call off their whole stack on a draw. Let's say he had AcXc. If you re-raise and he calls, and a club hits the turn, you MIGHT be able to get away from the hand if he bets really strong. If you re-raise and he comes over the top, THEN you shove.
