If a table is playing really friendly, is it bad etiquette to shove all?
I was playing about a month ago, the table was playing really friendly poker, no one was jamming a bunch of chips into the middle. On this particular hand, I wake up with pocket Kings, I raise 3x bb to $1.50. BB calls. The flop comes 4s 10c Kc. I bet the pot ($3) and BB comes over the top for $6. He's been playing pretty tight, so I put him on AK. I shove all in for the rest of my chips ($74). He has me covered and calls and turns over Ks 4h. The turn and river are blanks, and I take down the pot.
Was that bad etiquette to go after his stack? I play because it's fun, but also to make some money - like everyone else I imagine. The guy was really cool about the beat, said "that's poker" and that he put me on Aces. Anyway, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks |

if everyone played 'nice nice' poker would be a very boring game. you're not there to make friends, you're there to have fun and make money, that's why you play. No its not bad etiquette to move all in here.If people want to play nice they can play the limit tables. No limit is a ruthless game!

An allin is part of poker. Your not going to find a game without somebody going allin. Like it was mentioned the point is to win besides having fun. Someimes you have to make a move. Nothing wrong with going allin.

He could have folded. He could have raised for less. Betting that kind of $$ on K/4 suggests he should find some other game.

Poker is about making money. Period. Some people play for fun, but unless you're playing for pennies with grandma, poker is about making money.
If he raises to $6 and you shove for $74, that's not bad etiquette; it's a ridiculously stupid bet. Doesn't matter if you have the nuts at that point. You re-raise to something substantial, but not $74 into a $6 pot. Some players are bad enough (and it sounds like from the game you're describing you and the others there fall into this category) that they will call off their whole stack on a draw. Let's say he had AcXc. If you re-raise and he calls, and a club hits the turn, you MIGHT be able to get away from the hand if he bets really strong. If you re-raise and he comes over the top, THEN you shove. Trust me, I've moved all in with top set before like that. OVERBET. $475 shove with like $150 in the pot. Guy next to me calls with KsJs and hits it. Buh-bye stack. If I bet the pot, he calls, spade hits turn, I bet again, he raises, I fold. I would still have had some money left. Booyah! |

This is a horrible play with top set. You should have called his raise and then check down the rest of the way. That was very inconsiderate for you to put him all in. If i was a casino owner I would have you arrested.
