The Aussie Millions Main Event

The Aussie Millions Main Event is also called the Crown Australian Poker Championship. That's because the event is hosted at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. It is one of the biggest poker competitions in the country, with a prize pool exceeding AUD 7 million.

The first tournament took place a year later, in 1998, with 74 entries. The buy-in amount at the time was $1000. The 2005 edition of the competition saw many international participants from the US, New Zealand, Norway, and the UK. There were 418 participants, including famous poker players like Daniel Negreanu and Joe Hachem.

While the competition has enjoyed massive success since its inception, there have been some major setbacks since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The last winner was Vincent Wan in January 2020, before the pandemic struck. The 2021 edition was later postponed due to COVID-19.

So far, there have been question marks regarding whether or not the competition will return to life. Until then, it is expected that most players will resort to playing online poker in Australia by visiting online casinos. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) suffered a similar fate during the pandemic and opened its doors to online users. Joe Hachem, in 2005, won the WSOP main event with a prize of $7,500,000. This big win heralds the evolution of different major poker tournaments in Australia. Likewise, Jeffrey Lisandro and Robert Campbell emerged as the WSOP Player of the Year in 2009 and 2019, respectively.

Over the years, the WSOP has continued to gain popularity. The number of participants and prize money increases with each competition. The event went online for the first time in 2020 following obstructions from the pandemic. It birthed the introduction of online participation in the competition to date. The 2024 edition of the WSOP runs from the 28th day of March to the 17th of July.

Stacked Poker Championship

Adelaide is gradually becoming a hub for poker competitions, and the Stacked Poker Championship is one of its leading events. The inaugural edition of the Stacked Social kicked off on January 4, 2024, and ended on February 5, 2024. The competition offered an estimated prize pool of over $1,000,000 across 11 tournaments.

The buy-in for the main event was pegged at $1,600, whilst the Super High Roller had a buy-in of $8,000. The poker tournament also featured a $4,000 Stacked Challenge, with buy-ins of $230. Different players competed, employing their skills and poker strategies. Ultimately, Josh Foster emerged as the champion, with Aditya Rao coming second. Joe Sandaev won the Stacked $4k challenge.

Australian Poker Open

The Australian Poker Open kicks off from March 26 to April 27, 2024. It comprises a series of events like the Australian Poker Open, Diamond Cup, The Titan, and many more. The buy-ins for each event vary. The No Limit Hold 'em Staff Championship starts at AUD 150, the least. No Limit Hold 'em Day 1 and Day 2 have buy-ins at AUD 10,000, while The Establishment Day 1 and 2 have the highest buy-ins at AUD 20,000. The event promises a pulsating experience and is expected to host top poker players worldwide.
