Nearly Half of Brits Don't Know How to Play Poker or Blackjack

Nearly half of Brits don’t know how to play popular card games, including poker and blackjack. A poll of 2000 adults found that 37% of people feel put off going to a casino because they simply don’t know the rules of the games. 29% of people in the survey said that they would feel much more comfortable playing at an online casino, over a traditional establishment.

23% of people don’t know how to play slot machines, and 3 out of 10 are stumped when it comes to roulette. Even though Brits lack knowledge when it comes to gambling games, there has been a gambling boom in the UK over the last decade. Between April 2022 and March 2023, the sector generated £15.1 billion. This is a 200% increase from 2013. A lot of this came down to the surge in online gambling. 25% of Brits play blackjack online, including variants such as Speed Blackjack and Free Bet Blackjack. The rise in remote betting is linked directly to the increase in popularity of online casinos. Many gamblers prefer online platforms to physical venues due to increased accessibility and convenience, as people can wager on a huge amount of games from the comfort of their own homes. Even though it’s emerged that half of adults have never played a round of poker before, it seems that 34% of people think that their ability to keep themselves calm would make them a dab hand. 19% of people think they are good at fibbing as well, leading them to believe that they’d be good at games like poker.

The UK is a Dominating Force in Online Gambling

The study done on people in the UK also found that 45% of people have gambled at some point and that 32% of people would much prefer to place bets on games that have an element of skill rather than being entirely dependent on chance. The general acceptance of gambling in the UK largely comes down to technological innovations. Various establishments across the country are starting to use blockchain and VR. This is helping to give gamblers who may be unsure about gambling, or who may not know the rules of poker, the chance to try it in a new and engaging way.
