Question1: What to do if a player has to leave early in no-limit tournament style play? A) get rid of player's chips or B) divide player's chips over remaining players (how?) Question2: Does player leaving early get any money for his chips? If so, how much? Note: this is a group of friends, we're not playing for a living here.

Player leaving gets no money for his chips. He does, however, learn not to play if he expects to leave early.

It can happen at any point at any time during a tournament that a player leaves early. My main question is: What to do with his chips?

Any player who leaves has a right to hold onto his chips throughout the tournament. As the tourney goes on, his chips get blinded down. This means his blinds are posted in his absense. Technically speaking, it is possible for someone who gets blinded down to finish in the money. This would most likely happen if someone leaves when the bubble is comign soon. If this happens, he has a right to his cash - whether he is in attendence or not.
