Most people know Wil Wheaton from the movie "Stand by Me" and his role on "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Wil started playing poker in high school at casual games where they played dealer's choice games where half the deck was wild. Over the coming years his interest in poker grew. Around 1999, he watched a documentary about the World Series of Poker on The Discovery Channel. He later read "Poker Nation" after buying it at an airport bookstore and then read "Positively Fifth Street" by Jim McManus.
In 2003, Wheaton began writing about his love for poker on his blog, WilWheaton.net. After playing more regularly and gaining more visibility in the poker world, Wheaton accepted an invitation to join Team PokerStars in 2005 and played in the World Series of Poker that year. In June 2007, he announced that he would no longer be a member of Team Pokerstars due legal changes in the U.S.
