Cycalona "Clonie" Gowen is a professional poker player based in Dallas, Texas and is considered one of the rising female players.
Born in 1971, Clonie grew up in Oklahoma and was born during a storm, which how she got her name Cycalona.
Gowen was introduced to poker by her boyfriend's father. After she became old enough she started playing poker while living in Dallas and driving to Shreveport, Louisiana on the weekends.
Although she owned a travel agency at one time, her true passion was poker. After she was making steady money and she decided to move away from traditional work and make poker her sole income.
Because she has a family, she treats her profession of poker very seriously and tries to maintain a consistent yearly income from playing poker. To lower her personal risk, she is frequently backed when she plays tournaments.
In 2002, Clonie finished 10th in the 1st season of the WPT at the Costa Rica Classic. The following year, she was invited to play in the first WPT Ladies Night tournament. She finished in 1st place, ahead of the best female players in the world - Jennifer Harman, Annie Duke, and Kathy Liebert. The notoriety that ensued has never ceased, and she has gone on to cash in a number of tournaments since that time,
Gowen appeared on NBC Poker After Dark, winning 1st place and $120,000 during "Ladies Week". She followed that up with more success on the show and is one of only five players to win three or more Poker After Dark titles.
Gowen was a guest commentator for the Ultimate Poker Challenge and is a regular columnist for All In magazine.
She is a former a member of Team Full Tilt. In 2008 she filed a lawsuit in Nevada court against Tiltware LLC, the software company associated with Full Tilt, claiming breach of contract. She sought damages of $40 million, but her lawsuit had been dismissed in 2010.
Gowen has 9 WSOP cashes with her best being a 15th place finish in the 2008 $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em w/ReBuys Event for $28,940. Her total live tournament winnings (as of 2008) exceed $1,500,000. This is really good considering she has not had a notable cash in either the WSOP or WPT.
