Matt Savage is a well-respected tournament director and is best known for his role as the tournament director for the WSOP, which he held from 2002-2004.
Over the past few years, he has decided to spread his knowledge about running poker tournaments to others in the poker community. In 2001, along with Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher and David Lamb, Savage co-founded the Tournament Directors Association, an organization whose mission is to standardized rules for poker tournament worldwide. Savage was the first inductee into the Poker Room Manager's Hall of Fame in 2003.
Besides his role as tournament director, he has cashed twice in the WSOP as a player, both in 2009. He had a 5th place finish in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better Event, earning $32,465. And a 60th place finish in the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Event, earning $4,360. As of 2009, his total live tournament winnings exceed $70,000.
